Take your emergency medical career to the next level with FVI’s Paramedic Program in Miramar, FL. Designed for certified EMTs, this program builds on your existing foundation by providing advanced training in life-saving techniques, patient assessment, and emergency medical interventions.
Students gain practical experience through a combination of classroom learning, simulation-based labs, clinical rotations, and field experiences. Throughout the program, you’ll strengthen your ability to manage complex medical emergencies, administer medications, perform advanced airway procedures, interpret cardiac rhythms, and deliver high-quality patient care in fast-paced emergency settings.
Graduates may pursue paramedic certification and careers with emergency medical services, fire departments, hospitals, and other healthcare organizations.
The Paramedic Program consists of three core components:
- Lecture – 346 Hours
- Lab – 328 Hours
- Clinical/Externship – 432 Hours
- Total Duration – 1106 Months
Classes are held two days per week, with additional hours for clinical rotations at approved medical facilities and EMS agencies. The program is structured to support student learning through both theory and skill application.

Externships provide a structured opportunity for students to observe professional EMTs in action and to apply the skills learned in class to real-life situations. Online EMT classes with clinical training
EMT Classes and Course Breakdown
FVI’s EMT program is a 16-week blended learning experience that combines live online classes with in-person labs and clinicals. No prior healthcare experience is required. The program prepares students for entry-level roles in emergency medical services and for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) EMT-Basic certification exam.
You’ll gain foundational skills in trauma care, medical emergency management, patient assessment, airway support, and safe transport — all aligned with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National EMS Education Standards (NEMSES).
Graduates are prepared to work in ambulance services, hospitals, fire departments, and event safety teams. This EMT program is offered at both of our campuses.

Each week, students attend in-person lab sessions to practice lifesaving techniques like airway management, CPR, trauma stabilization, and patient transport. Admission Requirements to Become a Paramedic
The Paramedic Program is designed for students who already have an EMT foundation and are ready to build more advanced emergency medical skills.
To enroll in the Miramar paramedic program at FVI, students must meet the following admission requirements:

High School Diploma or GED
Applicants must have a high school diploma or recognized equivalent.

Current Florida EMT Certification
Applicants must hold a current Florida EMT certification before entering the program.

Background check
Students must complete required background screening for participation in the program and clinical experiences.

Drug screening
Students must complete required drug screening before participating in applicable clinical or field experiences.

CPR Certification
Students must meet the program’s CPR certification requirement before beginning applicable training.

Entrance Exam Requirement
Before starting clinical rotations, students must pass a background check and drug screening. You may also need to meet immunization requirements such as PPD testing and proof of vaccinations, depending on clinical site policies.

What to Expect in this South Florida Paramedic Program
Do I need to be an EMT first?
Yes. Students must already be a certified EMT before entering most Paramedic Certificate programs. FVI also offers an EMT Program for students who need to complete that step before pursuing paramedic training.
What does a paramedic do?
Paramedics provide advanced emergency medical care, including medication administration, advanced airway management, cardiac monitoring, trauma care, and emergency interventions beyond the EMT scope of practice.

How long is the Paramedic Program?
FVI’s Paramedic Program can be completed in 12 months and combines classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, clinical rotations, and field experience.
