If you want to pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) but don’t know where to start, you are in the right place. This article explains the requirements for applying to practical nursing school in Florida and the steps to take after graduation to earn your license and start working as an LPN.
Application Requirements
FVI’s practical nursing school offers a fast path to a career in healthcare. It provides the classroom learning and clinical experience that will help you pass the NCLEX for LPN licensure. From recent high school graduates to older adults seeking a career change, anyone who meets the eligibility requirements is encouraged to apply to FVI’s practical nursing school in Miami, Florida.
The admission process consists of the following steps:
1. Consider Meeting with an FVI Admissions Counselor
An in-person visit with an FVI Admissions Counselor is the best way to learn about FVI’s nursing programs and determine if practical nursing is the right choice for you. During this visit, you can tour the campus and see students in action. We take time to get to know you, explain the application process, and answer any questions you may have.
2. Complete the Application Requirements
Like all nursing schools, applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements to enroll in the practical nursing program.
PN Program Application Checklist
- Age requirement: Applicants must be 17 or older at the time of enrollment. Students under 18 must have a parent’s signature.
- Identification: FVI accepts a valid driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID with a photo.
- High school diploma: All nursing programs require a diploma or GED.
- Minimum GPA: The minimum GPA for nursing school depends on the program. Ask your Admissions Counselor for clarification.
- Prerequisite courses: Practical nursing applicants must have completed coursework in related subjects, including anatomy, biology, or math.
- Health clearance: This includes proof of vaccinations, drug screening, and a completed medical form from an approved healthcare provider.
Applicants also complete an initial interview to ensure they meet the program requirements and understand the course format and expectations.
3. Submit Your Application
Once you have these items, you can register for the FVI entrance exam and begin submitting your application. On average, the practical nursing program at FVI takes 14 months to complete. After graduating, you must sit for the NCLEX-PN, which is the standardized test all nursing school graduates must pass to obtain a license as an LPN.
