  • Practice Interview Questions – When you look online, you can find endless practice interview questions. There is everything from general interview questions to interview questions for specific positions. If you search online, you should even be able to find some interview questions specifically for patient care technicians. Take a look at those questions and be sure that you have good answers for all the questions that might be asked of you. Also, if you want to make it more like a real interview, you can ask a friend or family member to ask you the questions so that you can practice answering to another person. Then, they can give you feedback on what you did well and what you can improve upon when answering the questions.
  • Research the Position – Another way you can prepare for your interview is by doing a little bit of research on the position. Patient care technicians can perform slightly different duties based on where they are working and what is needed from them at that particular location. For example, if you are applying to work at a nursing home, your job duties might be slightly different than working in a long-term rehabilitation or healthcare facility. Do some research on where you will be working so that you are better prepared for what your specific job duties will be.
  • Be Prepared to Discuss Your Relevant Experience – During your interview, your interviewer is trying to determine whether you are competent and qualified for the job. They are also trying to decide if you would be a good addition to the team. That means you will want to be ready to talk about your relevant experience and why you are qualified for the position. If you have never been a patient care technician, you can talk about your experiences in patient care technician school, or you can talk about any other jobs you have had that may share similar skills. You will want to sell the interviewer on the fact that you are qualified and capable to take on the position.

If this is a career you really want to pursue, and you are excited about the opportunity to work in this position, don’t be afraid to show that in the interview. Employers want people that are excited about their jobs and that care about their patients. When the interviewer asks a question about why you are applying for this position, you can share a little about why you are passionate about being a patient care technician.
