Our program is designed to cater to the specific learning and schedule needs of any person interested in becoming a medical assistant. Before you embark on your journey to becoming a medical assistant, there are some things you may wish to consider. The following readings should offer some insight into what it takes to achieve your goals.

About the Program

At FVI School of Nursing and Technology, we understand that our students time is valuable. We also understand that not everyone has the luxury of dropping what they are doing in their lives to pursue their dream career. That is why we offer evening and day classes to better suit the schedules of our students who may need more flexibility to attend to their day-to-day responsibilities. We understand that everyone learns differently, and are fully dedicated to making sure each student gets the attention and time needed to gain the knowledge necessary to succeed. We keep our class sizes relatively small to further ensure that each of our students receives the attention and time they deserve.

Our program will typically take months to complete. Once the program’s course work has been completed, students will begin an internship or externship. The internship or externship will put the skills you have learned to the test. This portion of the program will take 6 to 8 weeks and can be completed in the front office, back office, or both. Upon completion of our program, students will be advised to take a state test to become certified and practice medical assisting in Miami.

What It Takes to Become a Medical Assistant

Medical Assisting ProgramWhile medical assisting is a fun and rewarding career, it is not suited for everyone. Medical assisting is a great career for anyone who is: dependable, can handle varying levels of stress, has strong communication skills, can maintain the utmost integrity, can maintain self-control in strenuous situations, and remain courteous at all times, in any situation. Medical assistants must be empathetic towards all patients regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or personal beliefs.

Attention to detail is another quality that medical assistants must practice to ensure patients get the quality help and treatment they require. It is important to acknowledge that being a medical assistant is more than just learning the necessary skills from a book. Professionalism is a must, and the qualities listed above are exactly what most employers will look for. An employee must be able to follow directions precisely and without hesitation. Confidentiality is a must and an understanding of HIPAA regulations followed always.

What Skills You Can Expect to Learn

Our medical assistant program teaches students all relative skills necessary to thrive in a medical environment. These skills include: Performing EKG (electrocardiogram) tests, biological specimen collection, some X-rays, urinalysis tests, phlebotomy (drawing blood), assisting and performing minor surgeries, medical assistants will also learn to process and record pharmacological date. Aside from hands on duties, a medical assistant student will also learn the necessary medical office management skills required by most offices. These skills will include: booking appointments, reception, informatics, records management, and insurance billing. Apart from supplying students with the resources and knowledge needed to succeed, we offer lasting friendships and experiences that will stay with you a lifetime!
