Taking the first step towards studying for a new career takes time, dedication, and perseverance to achieve. Our medical assistant program is designed to help students to develop the skills necessary to enter into an entry level position at a healthcare facility upon completion of our program. Students can expect to have hands on experience, an opportunity to do an externship or internship, and to gain real world experience in this career field.

How Do You Know if Being a Medical Assistant is the Right Choice for You?

Working as a medical assistant can be a rewarding experience, but it’s one of the most challenging careers to take on. Understanding from the start whether studying to be a medical assistant is the right choice for you is vital to succeed in this career field. The career of a medical assistant is challenging and many times the job requires completing a multitude of daily tasks depending on their work environment.

The program is an ideal option for people who possess the following qualities:

  • Dependable
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Able to handle high levels of stress
  • Are able to be empathetic towards patients and other people
  • Great self-control during intense situations
  • Have the ability to remain courteous even during bad situations
  • Possesses a strong level of integrity

Working in the medical field means you will be dealing with people face to face every day. There will be times where situations or emotions can run high and it’s up to the medical assistant to remain professional during these sensitive interactions. https://www.youtube.com/embed/WlVrWdlu22U

Are Their Options Available to Work Around your Busy Schedule?

We understand everyone’s lifestyle is different and in many cases people have responsibilities outside of school. Being able to study for a new career, but attend courses that work around your schedule are essential to being able to succeed. We do offer classes to fit around your schedule with campus day and evening classes widely available.

One of the main focuses of our medical assistant school is our hands on learning experience to ensure students are gaining the most out of the program. These experiences are a necessity to preparing students for their career, so you can expect class sizes to be relatively small. Coursework is assigned throughout the program that will help you to get the most out of your program. Upon completing coursework, students have the option to their statewide exam to become a certified medical assistant.

Will There Be Any Help with Job Placement?

There are great jobs available to students once they complete medical assistant school. Certificate and diploma programs take twelve to eighteen months to complete, but the main concern students have upon graduation is job placement. We help students with job placement once they’ve graduated to help them get started on their new career.

We also offer a certification preparation course to allow students to be prepared to take their exam if they plan to becoming certified. There are other opportunities available for externships or internships so students are able to learn outside of the classroom in real world scenarios. Students are also offered a variety of classes to fit around their schedule and to allow them to get the most out of their training.

Do You Need to be Certified to be a Medical Assistant?

Students don’t have to be certified upon completing their program to pursue a career as a medical assistant. Here at the FVI School of Nursing and Technology we do advise our students to take the medical assistant certification exam (CCMA) which we do offer in our own learning facility. The benefit of becoming certified is employers may be more inclined to hire students who have just completed their program, especially when just starting out in their career field.

Obtaining a medical assistant certification isn’t just about learning and training medical procedures and fact. Medical assistants play a vital role in helping healthcare facilities to run smoothly, handling patients, doing administrative duties, and handling a variety of other tasks throughout the day. They’re professionals who have an assortment of responsibilities that are necessary to keep healthcare facilities operating smoothly.

Employers look for a medical assistant who is professional, neat in appearance, is able to follow directions, and understands the importance of HIPPA. Medical assistants must also be able to help put patients at ease during their doctor’s visit and help them to feel comfortable. Depending on the work setting the tasks a medical assistant is required to do can vary.
