As well as teaching students scripting, students work with a variety of code. “Web developers design and create websites. They are responsible for the look of the site…the site’s technical aspects, such as performance and capacity, which are measures of a website’s speed and how much traffic the site can handle.”[1] The graduates of this program will be able to perform the tasks required of an entry level professional within the web development field.

The institutionally accredited FVI School of Nursing and Technology opened its doors February 2007 with a goal of teaching students to become entry level professionals in high demand careers. In accordance with our founding principles, the Web Development Engineer Program is determined to equip its graduates with the necessary skills to capitalize on the growing opportunities within the industry. “As more companies offer or expand their online retail presence, more Web developers will be needed to build the websites visited by consumers to purchase their favorite products. Increased reliance on mobile search is another reason the industry’s employment growth should remain strong.”[2]  The prospects for web developers continue to expand and have a promising future. “The BLS reports that Web developers made a median salary of $63,160 in 2013. The highest-paid in the profession earned $110,350, while the lowest-paid earned $33,320 that year.” [3] An exceptional opportunity, a web development engineer has great earning potential.

Recently, the IT industry has been achieving larger than average growth as a result of smartphones and ecommerce. Within that industry, web developers have seen consistent opportunity. “Employment of web developers is projected to grow 20 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will be driven by the growing popularity of mobile devices and ecommerce.” [4] This high demand will be supported through technology expansion offering web development engineers positions in a field with continued growth. Ranked number four on U.S. News’ Best Technology jobs, web developers have an unemployment rate of 3.8%[5], far below the national average. Web developers have above average upward mobility and below average stress levels in their work environments. [6]
