IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer Program

The IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer program at FVI School of Nursing and Technology provides students with the hands-on experience to support, manage and troubleshoot information systems while in an institutionally accredited environment. The program furnishes students with exposure to concepts and imparts the skills necessary to perform basic configuration procedures. FVI School of Nursing and Technology’s program presents students with the ability to work within a wide range of computing environments with Microsoft Windows Server and the integrated family of server products. Students are given the tools to configure Cisco switches and routers in multi-protocol Internet works as well as Cloud technology. Through demonstrations and laboratory projects, students of the IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer program will be able to build LAN and WAN interfaces for the most commonly used routing and routed protocols.

In general,  IT Security and Cloud professionals are sought-after because of the scarcity of qualified specialists. “The shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals, not just in the cloud but in general, was noted by a Cisco study in early 2014, and reiterated by a RAND report [that] June. “[1]This general shortage has created a direct need for skilled IT professionals. An additional contributor to this growth in available IT Security and Cloud professional positions is a result of a demand for professionals with cloud computing skills. Great deals of IT professionals do not have the necessary skill set for cloud computing, increasing this industrial demand. Exemplified by “The Hiring Scale is 79 for IT jobs that require cloud computing skills with 9 candidates per job opening as of December 12, 2014.” [2] On a scale of 1-100, with 100 being the most difficult, this rate of 79 demonstrates that employers find it incredibly difficult to fill their open IT positions. While this may not be good news for employers, it is excellent news for a qualified IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer!

FVI School of Nursing and Technology opened its doors in February 2007 with a mission to train students to become entry level professionals in high demand careers. In accordance with the Institute’s objective, the IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer program is designed to prepare graduates to obtain certifications in CompTIA A+, Security +, Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and Microsoft. “There are 3.9 million jobs in the U.S. affiliated with cloud computing today with 384,478 in IT alone.”[3] Most recent studies indicate a continued high demand for IT professionals. The job prospects for an IT Security and Cloud Professional Engineer are favorable for the foreseeable future. “By 2020, employment in all computer occupations is expected to increase by 22%, but some IT fields will fare better than others, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)”[4] IT Security and Cloud professionals are likely to remain high-demand because of a shortage of skilled labor in the IT industry.
