Phlebotomy Practice Day in Miami. Good things happen when you get to spend some time with our Patient Care Tech and Medical Assistant students and their professor. If Phlebotomy? is a subject that interest you, and you are thinking in becoming a certified Phlebotomist, it is important that you get to practice with your fellow students so you can get the much-needed confidence because you’ll be working with people on a daily basis.

But what is phlebotomy? According to US News “It’s the healthcare professional who draws blood, ensuring that the proper amount is taken and that all blood is properly labeled. Patients or blood donors may see a phlebotomist in a medical laboratory, a blood donor center or a doctor’s office.” So if you’re thinking that you have to be comfortable with needles, the answer is: yes.

We started with the phlebotomy practice to test, what would happen in a real medical office environment when the patient walks in to see you.  Some people may get shy when they see a camera but after a couple of tries, it was great for them to feel what is like to be in front of a patient.

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. Some explain their work to patients and provide assistance when patients have adverse reactions after their blood is drawn. When you are a certified in Phlebotomy, you can work mainly in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and doctors’ offices.

So, they practiced and practiced, because the only way of becoming really good at something is doing it.

Generally, the prerequisites needed to become a Phlebotomist in Miami include:

• Be 18 years of age
• High school diploma or your GED
• 120 hours of classroom training
• About 1,000 hours of work experience (putting your skills to work)
• Graduate from your chosen phlebotomy course
• Choose a school that is accredited

Phlebotomy training courses are typically short and job placement is often easy. If you are interested in working in the medical field but are not completely sure, this may be a great place for you to start!
